"There was no shortage of groups named The Shags in the mid-‘60s. There were Shags all across the country. The Shags from New Haven, CT, however, were by far the most well-known, successful and recorded; and they actually hold the registered trademark of the name for performing musical groups. The Shags released 6 singles and left several unreleased tracks. This compilation includes 7 previously unissued tracks by The Shags and the band that evolved when The Shags broke up, PULSE. Also includes a 20-page booklet with the complete 'Story of The Shags'." - Dwayne Witten, Mascot Records
"Living up to the reputation as “the Beatles of Connecticut” had its rewards and challenges. Like when we opened for Chubby Checker and Leslie Gore at Yale's Woolsey Hall, where we were mobbed by screaming teenage girls who tore off our clothes and stole Johnny's gold necklace. Or playing for Danny Thomas's St. Jude's Children's Hospital fundraiser at Bushnell Auditorium, where we were once again mobbed, needed a police escort to take us away to a White Castle Restaurant, where we waited until the buzz died down. Upon our return, we found our Cadillac hearse covered with the names and phone numbers of hundreds of girls written with lipstick. We knew what Beatlemania was, firsthand! It was Shagamania in Connecticut! Yes, it was a challenge but a whole lot of real happy fun times, thanks to Doc Cavalier's belief in us, and I would do it all again!" - Tommy Roberts, Co-Founding Member of The Shags
